Well of the Seven Heads Looking SW down the Great Glen from Loch Lochy

Explore Scotland's Great Glen

The Great Glen is a spectacular fault line running coast to coast across the Scottish Highlands from the Highland capital of Inverness on the edge of Moray Firth to Fort William at the head of Loch Linnhe on the West coast.

The Glen is a natural communications route across Scotland, followed by the Caledonian Canal and the A82 road. A long-distance route for cyclists, canoeist and walkers called the Great Glen Way links Fort William to Inverness. The route is a series of footpaths, forestry tracks, canal paths and occasional stretches of road.

The scenery is magnificent, with the high peaks all around reflecting in the still waters of the deep lochs. Rivers and streams teem with fish, wildlife abounds, and the walking, climbing and cycling possibilities are endless.

However you choose to explore the Great Glen - by car, on foot, by bike or afloat - Ivy Cottage makes an ideal and cosy base.
